CHAMPVA

Eligibility 

To be eligible for CHAMPVA, you must be ineligible for TRICARE and meet one of the following conditions: 

  • Condition 1
    You are the spouse or child of a veteran who has a 100% rating for a service-connected disability.
  • Condition 2
    You are the spouse or child of a veteran who died from a service-connected disability that had been VA rated.
  • Condition 3
    You are the spouse or child of a veteran who was 100% disabled at their time of death.
  • Condition 4
    You are the surviving spouse or child of a military member who died in the line of duty.

CHAMPVA and Medicare

Medicare eligibility may affect CHAMPVA eligibility. To retain CHAMPVA benefits beyond your 65th birthday, you must meet one of the following requirements:  

  • Condition 1
    Turned 65 before June 5, 2001, and only have Medicare Part A
  • Condition 2
    Turned 65 on or before June 5, 2001 and have Medicare Parts A and B, and will retain both parts in the future.
  • Condition 3
    Turned 65 on or after June 5, 2001 and have Medicare Parts A and B
