Joe's Notes

JoeNote

The VA will not pay for emergency care in a non-VA facility if another insurer pays for any part of the bill.

JoeNote

The VA will only pay for emergency care in a non-VA facility under these circumstances:

  • You are enrolled in the VA Health Care System.
  • You have used VA health services within the last 24 months.
  • You have no other health insurance coverage, including Medicaid.
  • Transporting you to a VA hospital at the time of the emergency was not feasible or the delay would have endangered your life.
