TRICARE Plans

TRICARE Prime Remote

TRICARE Prime Remote offers members of all five branches of the service, the U.S. Public Health Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration free health care. To be eligible, personnel must live and work more than one hour or 50 miles away from the nearest military treatment facility (MTF) in the United States.

Highlights

  • There are zero costs to servicemembers or their families with TRICARE Prime Remote coverage.

  • TRICARE Prime Remote provides pharmacy benefits and dental benefits through the Tri-Service Remote Dental Program (RDP). Servicemembers and their dependents can see any licensed dentist in their area.

  • Beneficiaries using the program can still seek treatment at a military treatment facility, if they wish.

Eligibility

The following personnel are eligible for TRICARE Prime Remote:

  • Check if the area you live in is classified as remote.

  • Dependents residing in a remote area with an eligible servicemember can also use TRICARE Prime Remote.

  • Reservists, National Guard members and their dependents called to active duty for more than 30 consecutive days in a remote area.

 Drawbacks

  • Servicemembers must use a TRICARE authorized health care provider. Not using an authorized physician will result in pay for health care and waiting to be reimbursed.

  • Servicemembers stationed in a remote zip code are ineligible for other TRICARE programs.
