Eligibility

You are eligible for TRICARE benefits if you are:

  • An active duty servicemember
  • A National Guard or Reserve member (or their dependents) called to active duty for more than 30 consecutive days
  • A spouse of an active duty servicemember
  • A single child of an active duty servicemember
  • A retired servicemember or their dependent
  • The single former spouse of an active duty or retired servicemember who has died
  • The single child of an active duty or retired servicemember who has died

Procedures and treatments not covered under TRICARE:

  • Acupuncture
  • Anabolic steroids
  • Artificial insemination
  • Autopsy
  • Birth control that is not prescribed
  • Bone marrow transplants to treat ovarian cancer
  • Christian science treatments
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS)
  • Custodial care
  • Electrolysis
  • Food or food substitutes outside a hospital
  • Foot care
  • Hearing exams
  • Immune globulin
  • Investigational drugs
  • Learning disabilities
  • Naturopaths
  • Orthodontia
  • Orthopedics
  • Over-the-counter drugs
  • Private hospital rooms
  • Retirement homes
  • Sex change operations
  • Speech therapy

To be eligible for TRICARE, children must be unmarried and under age 21. Exceptions are granted for children of servicemembers who are full-time students. In that case, coverage is extended to their 23rd birthday.
