Sack of Half a World Away
Sack talks about his milblog Half a World Away
Question: What are 3 things your readers probably do not know about you?
1. I failed creative writing in High School.
2. I have a great job at a great company, ConAgra Foods, when I’m not playing soldier.
3. I met my wife as a freshman in college and we’ve been together ever since.
Question: How long have you been blogging and why did you get into blogging?
I started blogging in May of last year. Originally, I was planning on uploading all my pictures to a website, but it was blocked here, so I decided to start a blog. Primarily, I blog to keep my friends and family up to date on what I am doing and what I am thinking about.
Question: What is your military experience?
I have been in the Nebraska National Guard for a little over 9 years. I have served in the same job the entire time, as a paralegal. I have been lucky in that this is my first deployment, other then a short one of 30 days guarding the airport after 9/11. This is the longest National Guard deployment since World War II.
Question: What are some of your other favorite Milblogs?
There are so many great milbogs out there. Unfortunately most of them are blocked here at Anaconda, so I’m a little limited in what I read. I read blackfive.net almost every day. Doonesbury’s The Sandbox is another daily stop. I love the daily roundup at the Mudville Gazette.
Question: What has been the biggest factor in helping you create and publish a successful blog?
Interesting experiences! I tend to seek out doing things that I think will make for fun stories to put up on my blog.
Question: Do you have anything else you would like us to mention about you, your blog, or your readers?
I have met a lot of really neat people through my blog. I’ve had people send me letters and packages that I’ve never even met. The support of the milblog community has really been awesome and helped make my deployment easier. So, to everyone who has written, emailed, commented, or otherwise contact me, thank you very much! You are greatly appreciated.
