Here we go into Super Bowl Weekend, and The Crawfish has this reminder for you: In this down economy, the advertisers really do need your support during this game, so go pee during the action of the field.

On that subject, The Crawfish will post a special edition of The Claw next week (day to be determined) with my annual review of the commercials from the big game. As for the game itself, there are three reasons that I will be cheering for the Arizona Cardinals:
a) The Cards beat the Filthadelphia Illegals!
b) The Cowboys and Steelers are tied at 5 rings each.
c) Barack Obama is cheering for Pittsburgh.

We start off the Saturday column with an article that is certain to hack you off. Don’t ever let a member of a teachers union try to tell you that they are not extremely biased in favor of the Democrats. The indoctrination of our children continues.

And so it begins. The Democrats have taken control, and one of their first acts is to start trying to prosecute members of the previous Administration for crimes that do not exist. The left still has its panties in a wad over the 9 federal prosecutors that the W Administration fired, even though they serve at the pleasure of the President and their hero, Bill Clinton, fired many more of them. They also are peeved that the W Administration prosecuted (and convicted) a former Governor. That’s just not allowed when the perp is a Democrat. Of course, the guy pushing this is Rep. John Conyers, and before I even had a chance to do so, blogger Gunny G has him skewered, sliced, diced, and flambéed over his own misdeeds on the taxpayer dime.

When it comes to dealing with Islam and its followers, even the Dalai Lama knows that non-violence will never work. The Democrats and the leftists of Europe will just have to agree to disagree with him.

Have I shown y’all a story of non-tolerance from the Followers of the False Prophet lately? In case I’ve been remiss in that duty, I humbly this story from Cairo. Go ahead, CAIR. Put me on your watch list, AGAIN!

Y’all probably expected this bit of racist legislation to appear sometime early in this year. Yep, we must be ready to give more money away to people to buy their votes.

Now that they’re in power, the Democrats are facing a big division within their party. Dear Leader won’t be able to vote “Present” on this one, since one of his stated main goals is the “greening” of America. The issue is whether or not to build a big wind farm off the coast of Taxachusetts. The Governor (a good friend of Obama and source of many of his best speech lines) is a proponent, as are the legions of envirowackos that dictate policy to the Democratic Party. In opposition stands Senator Teddythedrunk (D-Chappaquiddick), “The Lion of the Senate”, whose family estate would have its luxury somewhat disrupted by having the wind turbines within view on a clear day.

What network managed to score the first television interview with President Obama? If you guessed ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, PBS, Oxygen, Lifetime, whatever the name of that gay/lezbo network is, USA, or ESPN, you would sadly be mistaken. Once again, we see where he stands.

That interview went so well that Mah(p-tooey)mood I’minajihad is demanding that the US end all support for the murdering Zionist regime and apologize to Iran for all past misdeeds, along with removing all of our forces from the middle east. What part of “Kiss my anti-terrorist, pro-Israel tail section” is so hard for him to understand?

Free healthcare for illegal aliens, paid for by American taxpayers, is part of the SCHIP legislation changes put forth by Dingy Harry and the rest of the Democrats. Socialism and open borders combined in one legislative package. Niiiiiice.

Even the CBO knows that the SCHIP expansion before Congress is nothing more than nationalized and socialized medicine. Hawaii tried that stuff a year ago, and had to shut it down because all of the families quit paying for private sector insurance because the gummint was giving them freebies. They ran outta $$ within 6 months!

The Crawfish THOUGHT he had a real conservative as a Senator, but John Cornyn was one of ten Vichy Republicans who voted to confirm a tax-cheat as head of the IRS. Time to write an e-mail to my Senator…again.

Now we have an Obama nominee, this time for Deputy To Hillary!, who says not paying for foreign abortions is a limitation on the Constitutional right of free speech. Do liberals come up with this kind of logic naturally, or do they write it down while on acid trips?

Blogger edamon50 requested that this furniture advertisement be shown in The Claw this week, since Ol’ Blago’s impeachment trial was underway in the Corruptionnois Senate. We aim to please ‘round here.

During the W Administration, the unConstitutional Department of Education more than doubled its budget. If this new “stimulus” bill gets passed, that budget will get more than doubled again! The Noo Yawk Slimes actually has a pretty good article on how much of the “stimulus” bill’s spending is unConstitutionally spent on education. Of course, they don’t call it unConstitutional, but it is (look it up!). Notice how often UNIONS are mentioned in the article.

The Wall Street Journal reports that only 12% of the “stimulus” bill can even remotely be called economic stimulus-related. The Department of Education, with its expanded funds, ought to figure out that math. That may be a problem, since “No recipient . . . shall use such funds to provide financial assistance to students to attend private elementary or secondary schools.” So kids who are actually SMART can’t get any money, and no money can support kids who were not educated by UNIONIZED TEACHERS! Check out the rest of the 40 year liberal wish list that is included in this farce of a bill.

Heck, even Hollyweird is getting a part of the “stimulus” money. If they have enough money to pay line-readers $20 million or more per movie and throw super-lavish parties, along with the gratuitous look-at-me-and-how-important-and –successful-I-am award shows (is there a week between mid-January and mid-May that DOESN’T have some kind of award show?), then they need not a dime of MY TAX MONEY! Pay them military-enlisted salaries!

The taxpayer-supported and (swallow your coffee before reading the next term) “non-partisan” group ACORN committed a lot of vote fraud across the nation in their obvious partisan activities last year. Senator David Vitter of Louisiana has the stones to call out the Democrats for including a few BILLION of YOUR dollars to go to ACORN via the “stimulus” bill.

Since the GOP House Members had the integrity to stand up for the American people and vote against the unConstitutional spending of the “stimulus” bill, along with all of the Christmas-list of partisan liberal goodies (wait, that would be Festivus-list, since the Democrats are against all things Christian) that could never be passed if the media gave any scrutiny to them (see Wall Street Journal article discussed above), Queen Nanny blasted the GOP as acting in a “partisan and irresponsible manner.” As if anything in that bill is responsible and non-partisan, and as if her changing of the House rules to prevent the minority party from having ANY influence on legislation was responsible and non-partisan. Time for a reality check, Nanny.

According to taxpayer-funded PBS, Obama is the first true American to be President. That might be a shock to the previous 42 men who held that job. The Crawfish finds that to be an insult to the entire nation, but isn’t surprised since it came from PBS.

The Idiot of the Week Award goes to The Prophet Algoracle. That moron trudged through an ice storm to testify about Glo-Bull Warming before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, chaired by ultra-moron John Kerry-Heinz. Will any of the Vichy GOP Senators question him on his financial stake in the Glo-Bull Warming hysteria? He makes big bucks if people believe his lies.

Second Place goes to Red Nanny herself, who said that FOOD STAMPS will stimulate the economy more than tax cuts. I gotta admit that the voting was close between the winner and runner-up.

The Golden DUH! Award of the week goes to Senator Mitch McConnell and the leadership of the Vichy GOP. They have noticed that if the voters have a choice between Democrats and a party that WANTS to be Democrats, the people are going to vote for the real thing, not the imposter.

Not only did our new SecTreas willingly cheat on his taxes, but now he gets almost a half-million dollar SEVERANCE PACKAGE from the Federal Reserve! Quit working for one company in order to take another job elsewhere, and get a huge bonus. Where can I get a gig like that?

Dear Leader and his minions are now going after all non-liberal media, trying to re-impose the “fairness doctrine” through back channels. Remember that anything centrist or to the right will be classified as subversive or right wing, but CNN, CBS, ABC, NBC, PBS, and NPR will be called “fair and balanced.”

Here’s a pretty good book review about Bernie Goldberg’s latest work. Its subject is the media and how they elected Obama. Here’s a great line from it: “Giggly teenage girls at a Jonas Brothers concert behaved with more restraint than Chris Matthews.” Couldn’t have said it any better myself!

For a long time, there has been a virtual prayer meeting hosted daily at the White House through their website. The new Administration decided that Christianity needs to be eliminated from the White House.

Bloggers Average Voter and Saltwater bring me a story about poetry in the toilet as a weapon against Glo-Bull Warming. I really can’t make this stuff up.

The Goracle testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee (what does myth-making have to do with Foreign Relations?), and the Vichy Republicans gave him a complete pass. Even the WaPo is calling him The Goracle!

Some of you are going to be in for a double shock as you read today’s column. First of all, it is back down to a size that can be digested much quicker than the past few edition. Secondly, the size reduction is due to the fact that I managed to stay OFFLINE for all but a couple of hours this weekend. How’d that happen?

Have I said lately that I really like the new Pope and the Vatican under his leadership? Calling out Obama’s “arrogance” when nobody in the media or any government has the stones to do so…love it!

I just wonder when the Pope will say that politicians who actively support abortion shall be denied Holy Communion. It really does need to happen.

To anyone who complains about my references to President Obama as The Messiah, The Chosen One, The Golden Child, etc., and my calling his inauguration The Coronation, I have done so because of how his followers and the media (but I repeat myself) have treated him over the past year. If you doubt it at all, just check out CNN comparing the inauguration to The Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca. Does THAT make my point? If not, then how about THIS story with its accompanying video? This story got sent to me by a BUNCH of veterans and other pro-military conservatives. The President and First Lady managed to make the rounds to TEN inaugural balls, but for the first time in 56 years the inaugural ball honoring recipients of the Medal of Honor was SKIPPED! But you can bet that he’d have attended one honoring the heterophobes if they’d had one! We now see some of his priorities.

Just in case you weren’t clear on what the Democrats consider to be proper conduct, we have yet another example of how NOT paying taxes is okay for the powerful people of DC. Yes, not only is the man who will soon be in charge of the IRS a tax cheat, but so is the head of the House committee that WRITES the tax laws!

A top official in the EU publicly states that Hamas is a terrorist organization and blames them fully for the Gaza battles, but the EU is going to send huge amounts of money to the Palestinians anyway. They say the money is not going to go through Hamas, but reality says that all money going into Gaza will go somehow to Hamas.

When confronted with a story like this one, one wonders how many folks out there this winter are itching with the desire to kick The Prophet Algoracle in his squirrel food. Of course, while this is going on, Hillary! has appointed an envoy for climate change who is an expert on Kyoto and such. Why is junk science such an important issue for the Administration?

Proving yet again that the economic “stimulus package” is really nothing more than a bill to fund any liberal program that normally cannot pass the smell test, Red Nanny is adding BIRTH CONTROL funding to the package. Is she trying to increase stimulation in the country or stimulate the economy?

And you thought THAT was the worst possible abuse of the stimulus package that I’d find, didn’t ya? Fear not, oh visitors to The Swamp, for it really does get worse for those of us who support the Constitution.

Why is it that for some people, it is ALWAYS a racial thing?

Qualifications? Why would anyone consider qualifications when contemplating who to appoint to a vacant Senate seat? Certainly not Governor Helmet Hair of Corruptionnois, since he thought about appointing OPRAH to the seat.

Many of you have expressed concern about the increasing socialistic aspects of our government. While the Democrats are strongly for socialism, even if they won’t say so publicly, the formerly conservative GOP has aided and abetted them for the past eight years or so. One of the most troubling aspects of our slide to the left is the growing amount of gummint control over the financial sector. Over the weekend, Queen Nan admitted that nationalization of the banks is something that the American people need to support. Will somebody puh-leeeze get her a copy of the Constitution.

If you eat a lot of McDonalds-type foods, are so lazy that you consider walking to the bathroom to be quality exercise, and weigh 400 pounds, it really isn’t your fault that you are overweight according to a crackpot “scientist” in Louisiana. I wonder how many hundred thousand dollars in government grants he got for his research.

You’ve all seen the television commercials for the retirement community in Florida called “The Villages.” Okay, you’re all seen hundreds of those commercials. Well, The Crawfish has discovered the reason for their motto of “Florida’s Friendliest Hometown!”

Some folks out there (La Raza, LULAC, other racepimps) believe that anyone who supports only LEGAL immigration and wants immigrants to assimilate into American culture must be a racist. Us evil conservatives just want to keep the latino down. In reality, it is the latinos that oppose assimilation that keep their fellow latinos down, as shown by this story about an immigrant who is doing it right. Good job, Ruben Jauregui! May your hard work and dedication be rewarded with success throughout your life in the United States of America.

Pakistan is supposedly an ally in the fight against Islamic terrorists, but they let the Taliban run loose and open in their country, and have let terrorists operate from their lands to attack India. See what a bunch of Texas Guardsmen are putting up with as they try to help the people of Afghanistan.

Ya know, Neal Boortz has been at this for a lot longer than I have, and sometimes I realize my own words would just pale in comparison to his on a story.

The Crawfish is a student of military and political history. I have come up with the proper comparison for today’s GOP. They are the Vichy GOP, who are nothing but puppets offering token opposition to the Democrats. Here’s a hint, guys. If something is anti-Constitutional, it is your DUTY to oppose it with every weapon in your legislative and parliamentary arsenal.

Can y’all imagine someone like this being taken seriously as a candidate for any political office 20 years ago. My, how we’ve deteriorated as a nation.

The material just keeps pouring in. Here I am posting Saturday’s column at noon on Thursday. If this keeps up, Josh and the rest of the staff at AllMilitary.com are gonna have to schedule me THREE times per week. Well, either that or I’m gonna have to take a vacation without internet access.

By now, you are all aware of the miracle of US Air Flight 1549 and their crash landing in the Hudson River.  Everything that could go right in that mishap did, from the sturdiness of the aircraft, the excellence of the piloting, the lack of panic among the passengers, the good job by the cabin crew in evacuating the plane, and the people of Noo Yawk who helped rescue everyone.  The passengers and crew would have not had their luggage and belongings ruined and their travel plans wrecked, and US Air would not have lost a multi-million dollar aircraft if some other people had done the right thing in the first place.  If more people had cooked goose for Christmas this year…..

One of the few areas that I do not begrudge the government taking control over our lives is public safety. That being stated, I do NOT agree with the National Safety Council’s recommendation that all cell phone usage when driving be outlawed. As long as it is legal to eat, play with the radio, have a conversation with others in the car, apply makeup, shave, read a newspaper, and pick your nose while driving, talking on the phone should be allowed.

The socialists in Europe have now outlawed the 100w incandescent light bulb, a la Californication, and are now looking at banning plasma TVs because they use more electricity than LCD models. I guess letting the PEOPLE decide what they want is a bad thing. Freedom is verboten!

Lately, I’ve been uttering the phrase “we’ve read this book before” quite a bit in regards to the economic plans emanating from DC. Massive federal spending and public works projects was the attempted solution that FDR and his people used in the 1930s, and they worked so well that the Depression was drawn out for years longer than it should have lasted, only to be ended by WW2. PEBO and the rest of the leftists want to try it again. It will not stop there, and we really have read this book before as the Wall Street Journal points out.

Note to all radio personalities: Whatever you do, make sure that you do NOT defend Christianity on the air or you just might get fired. Islam wins again in Scotland.

Real scientists, you know…the kind that have proven time and again that global warming and cooling is associated with solar activity instead of human activity, have some more potential bad news for us in regards to the sun. That big, bright, hot thing might cause us more problems soon, and they’re not talkin’ about temperature changes.

The Chosen One has decided that it is a good time to rub the wounds of the Episcopal Church raw and to throw salt in them. To placate the heterophobes of America, he has invited “bishop” Eugene Robinson to deliver an invocation at the Lincoln Memorial during Coronation Week. It really is fitting. The incoming leader of the nation opposes the very foundation of the nation, The Constitution, and one of his advisors is a leader of a church, but he opposes the very foundation of it, the Holy Bible. I keep telling y’all that liberals hate all rules that have any restrictions on behavior.

Now a Democrat (imagine that) is reintroducing legislation that would make OPEC and the arab states subject to US anti-trust laws, so the US government could charge them with collusion when they limit supplies or fix prices. If that were to pass, the arabs would laugh at us while they immediately cut our supplies and quadruple our prices. Does that Dim-bulb Senator expect the FBI to go over there and arrest them?

I’m not saying that there was any pay-for-play politics EVER associated with $lick and Chillary but…okay, maybe I HAVE been saying that for 16 years. Anyways, The Chosen One and The Frozen One have an “agreement” regarding her husband’s foreign fundraising. Basically, he can keep it up as long as he wants, and it will not reflect negatively on her as SecState, even if she is dealing with the same leaders that he is money-grubbing from. In response to this, the Republicans in the Senate are refusing to make an issue of it in her confirmation hearings. WHY NOT?

Blogger Edna Eagle asked The Crawfish and some others about the nominee for Attorney General, Eric Holder. She comes to question him regarding his stance on the 2nd Amendment and his support of the gun ban in DC that the SCOTUS case of Heller v. DC threw out last year. Holder’s history in the Justice Department and a deputy to Mr. Janet Reno included breaking department rules to get Puerto Rican TERRORISTS pardoned (to get the Rican vote in NY for Chillary’s Senate campaign) as reported on Tuesday. He also supported terrorist organizations when he represented Chiquita Brands International. They made payments to terrorist groups in Columbia, and he defended them, even stating that “there is no definition of terrorism.” Will THIS get proper opposition from the GOP Senators? I doubt it.  They don’t have the intestinal fortitude to challenge a black man who is being protected by the media.

Bill Richardson was at least smart enough to drop his Commerce nomination when his legal problems surfaced. Timothy Geithner, the nominee for Treasury, isn’t so smart. Treasury runs the IRS, and Geithner (until a few days ago) owed the IRS $34,000 because he DIDN’T PAY TAXES on income a few years ago. He also has nanny pay & immigration status problems. Instead of getting any opposition, these problems have been swept under the rug because he is sooooo “qualified.”

The nominee for Energy Czar, as reported in the last column, has been a member of many socialist groups, who are now scrambling to remove her name from their websites. Carol Browner also has ethics problems from her years as head of the EPA including destruction of documents in direct violation of orders from a federal judge. Will THIS get any opposition?

The nominee to head the CIA is so aware of what’s going on that he was completely clueless regarding Bill and Monica when he was in charge of the White House. Shall I continue with more of His nominees?

Even the choice for Education Secretary is in dire need of opposition. Arne Duncan has been the head of the Chicago public schools since 2001, and has proven himself to be a complete failure. Despite massive per student “investment” from local, state, and federal taxpayers, the system has FAILED to meet standards for FIVE STRAIGHT YEARS! This is the kind of competency and expertise that we want for the entire nation? The Senate opposition? Silent.

The whole coronation week is designed to harken back to Abe Lincoln which begs the question: Is Obama going to lead us into a Civil War? Someone else, in an e-mail, asked The Crawfish if Obama will remember to go to the theater? (I know…that’s just wrong…funny!…but wrong)

You probably thought unionized American teachers were irresponsible. That’s nothing compared to this Australian teacher who seems to not care if his students die.

Back to Her Thighness for a moment. Right at the beginning of her confirmation hearings, she expressed that she will use her new position to fight CLIMATE CHANGE! Does she plan on being able to regulate the SUN? That’s the only way to have any real impact on climate change.

Another young man who gets violent with the cops gets shot to death, and is immediately called a “gentle, sweet soul” by neighbors. Why doesn’t the press ever find a neighbor who will say (truthfully), “he was a dirtbag who needed killing”?

This story takes us on a little tour. It happens in a city about 30 miles from where The Crawfish is currently living, but I didn’t see the headlines anywhere until I make it to the website of The Jerusalem Post. These actions should have taken place last month, but then again these people should never have procreated in the first place.

Now that Roland Burris is assured of assuming the must-be-black Senate seat from Corruptionnois, Rush is resuming the fight against gun owners in America with a bill that will mandate Big Brother’s tracking of all firearms in the USA. If passed, it will basically make citizens ask permission of the government in order to exercise their 2nd Amendment rights.

Thank you, Massa! The Navy has received PERMISSION to train for combat. Yes, the envirowackos have gotten laws passed by their bretheren in the Democratic Party that officially put their interests over the defense of our nation.

Does Mexico actually have a functioning government anymore, or is it only in control of Mexico City and the nation’s tourist trap areas? A new report by US Central Command puts Mexico and Pakistan as the two nations that have the biggest possibility of “rapid and sudden collapse.”

When you hear that former Dallas Cowboy Michael Irvin was involved with a gun and a police report you automatically think the worst from “Playmaker.” I was pleasantly surprised with the story.

Once The Messiah starts his reign, will the rest of the world stop blaming the USA for all of their problems? I only ask this because Russia, Ukraine, and the EU are in disputes over natural gas supplies and the Russians are blaming the US for their failure to pump gas into the pipelines. Huh?

The Crawfish is now officially OUTTA CONTROL! When I can come up with this much column-worthy material in 4 days, and that’s after already splitting my column in two…sheesh. I promise that it is really worth reading, so hang in there.

One of the priorities of the incoming Administration appears to be getting control of spending by the Social Security Administration and Medicare. The Crawfish actually put forth a plan to properly take care of Social Insecurity last year. It is about halfway down this page from my election platform of 2008.

Proving once again that Europe is actively surrendering to the “Religion of Peace” and its threats of violence, some schools in Denmark are refusing to enroll Jewish kids. Why don’t they simply crack down on muslim violence instead of discriminating against the Jews? Would that offend the Religion of Hate? Oh, poo. Three paragraphs into a column and I’ve got CAIR’s towels in a twist again.

The Useless Nations have showed their hand, again, in support of Islamic terrorist organizations. Is it any wonder why they continually oppose Israel and ignore atrocities committed by muslims?

Just when you thought the bailout mania couldn’t get any more idiotic, along comes Porn King Larry Flynt and the guy from “Girls Gone Wild,” demanding a $5 Billion bailout of the porn industry. Of course, knowing the reprobates that run Congress, such as Teddythedrunk (D-Chappaquiddick), I wouldn’t really be surprised to see it pass. Blogger American Sweetheart has a good rant on this lunacy.

Of course, most of these bailouts wouldn’t be necessary if the credit system had not gone kaput, led by Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. For years, conservatives tried to get proper oversight and regulatory action on them, as evidenced by this video which the media got removed from the archives of Time Warner. Who backed the fraudulent actions of the GFEs while they were perpetuating huge amounts of fraud and on the verge of collapse? That would be none other than the party of the Congresscritter who was having a homorelationship with one of the heads of Freddie Mac, Bawney Fwank.

Then again, the Jerusalem Post has an editorial column by a rabbi who is the author of two books about sex.

You’ve gotta love how liberals cannot stand to use, or abide by, plain English. The simple language of our Founding Fathers must be “interpreted” to mean whatever the liberals WANT it to mean, while what a liberal really means must be wordsmith’d so as to be palatable to the American people. Why can’t they have the honesty and integrity to actually tell the truth?

It kinda takes us back to the campaign. When Rev. Wrong became known to more folks than just Sean Hannity’s audience, Trinity United Church of Christ scrubbed all mention of Dr. Cone and his Black Liberation Theology from their website, while it had been the centerpiece of their vision statement beforehand. Now, some socialist organizations are scrubbing their own sites to remove mention of Obama associates or nominees. Hat tip to blogger catmman who is a good Air Force vet down in San Antone.

Some folks seem to think that I never criticize George W. Bush. Well, since the only things that he has done that I have supported have been his judicial appointments (except Harriet Myers), his tax cuts for all taxpayers, and his engagement in the war of Islam vs Everybody, those folks haven’t been payin’ tension. Here’s another not so brilliant move on his part. Let’s give a bonus to the guy who presides over a border that is porous at best. Cue the cartoon guys from the Guinness commercials.

Michelle (***sigh***) Malkin reports that the Dept of Justice is finally taking action against the New Black Panthers for their voter intimidation tactics in Filthadelphia on National Vote For Obama Day. While only one polling place “guard” was reported by the media, evidently it was supposed to be taking place nationwide. The DoJ had to get the investigation public now, because the Obama Administration will try to quash that investigation two weeks from now. Notice that there was no national uproar about this case, but if it had been white guys intimidating voters and that precinct had gone to McCain…

Michelle also has a nice story about Obama’s Attorney General nominee and his role in pardons and sentence commutations for TERRORISTS in the US. Does anybody really believe that Dear Leader will be tough on terrorists?

The IDF has found a map that proves their claims that Hamas uses civilian areas and mosques for their militant actions against Israel.

The worst President of the past 150 years has chimed in again. As per usual, he blames Israel for the fighting in Gaza. The idiot still believes that a group whose charter calls for the extermination of Israel, and who refuse to acknowledge Israel’s right to exist, and whose religion calls for the enslavement or killing of all who do not convert to Islam, can be trusted to make a lasting and meaningful peace. He even has the nerve to refer to the tunnels that Hamas uses to smuggle weapons and fighters into Gaza as “defensive tunnels” that Israel attacked. This guy used to be a nuclear power engineer and graduate of Annapolis? Methinks he must have violated the Honor Code multiple times to pass anything more strenuous than junior high-level English Lit.

If y’all had any doubts about Barack Obama being a celebrity instead of a serious and substantial public figure, this ought to cure those notions and bring his stature into focus. Newsweek’s recent cover resembled old-school stained glass windows and paintings of Jesus and the saints, all of the other “news” and “entertainment” mags have cover stories on him (mostly fluff articles), and now he’s the central figure of a Spiderman comic. Yep, really Presidential material.

The Coronation parade for King Barack I will, of course, be completely politically correct to the point of a high school marching band changing their name and covering up the logos on their uniforms. If there was ever to be an inauguration parade for President Crawfish, I’d make sure that any school with the mascot of Chiefs, Warriors, or anything like that would get to send a representative if they wanted to.

The Crawfish figured out why The Chosen One and Dingy Harry really opposed the Senate appointment of Roland Burris. They don’t want competition in the celebrity department from a man who has already erected a monument to himself.

The Chosen One has been talking about moving quickly to cut taxes once he is crowned. Too bad for him, since Queen Nanny’s new rules for the House don’t allow for tax cuts, unless they are offset with tax INCREASES somewhere else! Tyranny, thy name is Pelosi.

I’ve mentioned before how I am deeply aware of the divisions within the Episcopal/Anglican community in the USA. The ordination of openly homosexual bishop Gene Robinson was one of the final straws, and now a female bishop has come out and declared “homosexuality is a gift from God.” Then in this past week, a supposed priest, Ed Bacon, said on Oprah’s TV show ”being gay is a gift from God” in response to a viewer. Obviously, the Episcopal Church has now officially gone off the deep end if they allow these two people to continue being ordained, since the Bible is quite clear that homosexuality is NOT A GIFT and is actually an ABOMINATION!

Minnesota Representative Keith Ellison, who professes the faith that commands loyalty to Sharia Law over all other laws, and therefore is anti-American, went on the Hajj Pilgrimage to Mecca, proving where his loyalties lie. His trip was paid for by a “non-profit interfaith group” called the Muslim American Society (what part of interfaith is compatible with muslim?), which was created by the Muslim Brotherhood, which also spawned Hamas and Al-Qaeda. MAS wants Sharia Law to be imposed upon the USA. MAS also supports terrorism and praises terrorists as martyrs in their organization’s magazine. MAS says that they did not pay for the trip, but Ellison’s office says that they did and it was approved by the House Ethics Committee. It has been noted often that muslims are encouraged by their faith to lie to Infidels while working to defeat them. Since the link here includes a defense of this group by CAIR, I have probably landed on that hate group’s watch list one more time (yippee!).

I can’t make this stuff up, folks. The Colombian coffee growers are threatening to sue Mike Peters over one of his comic strips in the USA. Peters is the creator of “Mother Goose & Grimm,” which is one of the funniest strips in syndication. The cartoon noted that the violence in Colombia might mean that there really is a bit of Juan Valdez in every can. I don’t care who you are, that’s funny.

All I can say to this story is…”HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!” It appears that these idiots will not get to enjoy their ill-gotten gains, and will soon be receiving their 72 virgin male camels in Hell. Oh, no. That could possibly have offended CAIR again…but I don’t CARE!

A friend of mine from Baltimore told me that the city’s Democrat machine is starting to look like the one’s in Chicago and Detroit, since the politicians are starting to get arrested in droves, including the Mayor.

The Golden Child’s advisors are now saying that 4.1 million jobs could be created by His recovery plan. Heck, The Crawfish could do better than that! I could create about 12 million jobs for Americans, completely eliminating all need for welfare. All I’d have to do is close the border and throw out the 20 million illegals we’ve got here now!

One of the Sun’ni terrorist leaders in Iraq was captured and has confessed to being the “military commander” of that group. First of all, since they are a terrorist group and not a nation, they cannot have a legal (by Geneva Accords definitions) “military.” Secondly, I wonder if his confession was obtained through talking nicely to him, as Leon Panetta and the rest of the American liberals want to do to terrorism suspects and illegal combatants, or through “active” interrogation…you know, the kind that actually WORKS.

The unConstitutional Public Broadcasting System and NPR are hereby honored for our “Biggest Laugh of the Week Award.” These organizations, which cannot compete in the open marketplace because of their lunacy and left wing slant (but I repeat myself), and cannot survive without being paid for with the tax dollars of people who oppose everything they stand for, are asking for a BAILOUT of $550 BILLION! They’re not entitled to ONE DOLLAR of my tax “contributions,” but are demanding 550 Billion???

I had reposted this at Knee Deep for a friend who needed some encouragement. I thought I would share it here as well. I know that the majority of us here are either military members or we love someone in the military. I think it’s still helpful to think about how others — those completely outside the military — view our loved one and our lives. Just a little something to ponder.

“We all have images in our mind’s eye that defines what we think a certain type of person or a certain vocation must be like. Very few members of John-Q-Public ever have the opportunity to see what an enlisted Soldier, an NCO, or an Officer of the Army is really like. Too much of our knowledge is formed by Hollywood and the TV networks, even in this age of alternate media reporting. Maybe more strides have been made during my lifetime to correct this problem than ever before. Yet, I think a fully-orbed view of who the citizen soldier “is” may be too much for people to grasp. Additionally I think it is too traumatic for them to grasp. Because, if they did then they would have to care, and if they cared then they would have to do something about it. By “something” I don’t mean carry a sign, write a congressman, or forward an email. No. I mean they would really have to do something tangible in the same manner as when your three year old says “please, I am hungry” — and the cost of actually doing something is for some of them too high. Far too high. So it is easier to idealize our Soldiers, our Officers, and the like by casting them in the role of sinner or saint. In that way the observers can embrace as much or as little as they can afford to embrace.”

Since his return, we have talked at great lengths about Damon’s military experiences and how it has changed and impacted him - both in good ways and in ways that are not so good. One way it has impacted him for the better is a newly developed empathetic understanding of soldiers. The time he spent in TraDoc was enough for him to have developed a deep sense of appreciation and a personal connection to his “Brothers in Arms.” Soldiers generally are not iconic to other soldiers. Damon was processing in his quote above how the citizen soldier is often a blank canvas for super-ego projection, and how we tend to see soldiers more as an iconic figure than as simply another human.

There is a portrait in my den that is almost finished. It’s a portrait of Mike that Damon painted from a snapshot picture. The portrait displays Mike on his 21st birthday, dressed in his battle rattle, holding a weapon, and looking tiredly into the camera. His eyes, in both the picture and the painting, are very shadowed due to the angle of the lens and the relative position of the sun. It is not exactly the best lighting in which to see the details of a person’s face. Damon titled the work “Not just another pretty face.” He wanted to call it that because to our family Mike is more, so much more, than just a soldier.

I would never say “just a soldier” in a way to demean or degrade the position he has chosen, please don’t read that with the wrong tone nor take it out of context. When I say he is more than a soldier to us I mean he is our son, brother, friend, etc. He just so happens to be a soldier too. This is a hard thing to keep in mind in the praxis arena of “troop appreciation” for a lot of people. Mike and Damon both are many other things to many people. They also, through military service, have become a symbol for many people in many places. For some that symbol is malicious and for others it is saintly. For some the symbol is that of freedom and democracy, and for others it’s a symbol of fierce might. What ever the projections are there is always an element of symbolic sacrifice mixed up in the solution. Societal entropy of this mixture, due to past and present conflicts and their impact on our Country, has created an amalgamation of symbolism and realism that are forever bound together. The sacrifice is real. It is acutely real, but we have too often taken their sacrifice as our very own garment to wear. I have a problem with this aspect of things.

Mike’s sacrifices are his. He made them. He made the decision to join the Army at a time of war. I am very proud of him, but I do not think that his service exonerates me, or anyone else, from sacrifice. I still have a duty, an obligation and a responsibility to live my life everyday as a citizen of a Country that is engaging in a long and extremely taxing war. I am not exonerated from being mindful and from being a good citizen. I am not released of my responsibilities, both de jure and de facto, that tie and bind me to the law, my family and my neighbors.

The sacrifice a soldier gives is both esoteric and immediate to the individual. The perception of that sacrifice by others sometimes becomes iconic to the point of forgetting that under all of the armor the soldier wears also beats a heart of flesh. Their sacrifice is not minor or trivial, it is not a slogan, and it is most certainly not being made so that we can live a life void of awareness and consideration of our fellow citizens and disregarding toward our own democratic inheritance. Their sacrifices consist of time, labor, sweat and blood — both their own and their fallen friends. They are called “sacrifices” because these are the things that are given, willingly by them, that can never be restored to them or paid back to them. They, through their own work and sacrifice, make a collective deposit of freedom for the rest of us. They pay a mighty high price for this commodity that is often, even in a time of war, taken for granted.

I faced redeployment with great trepidation, as I have mentioned in previous entries. I wondered what people would see when they see a young man come home from Iraq. He is a returning soldier and citizen, but is it possible to look into his eyes and not see “just another pretty face?” Is it possible to look at the face of a soldier and see beyond the image of a procurator of freedom and democracy, and see the “papa” who is missing his little girl? Can we really look that father in the face and for a moment allow the floodgates of empathy to open up hell-deep as we imagine how it would feel to miss one, two or more years of our own child’s life and development?

What do you see when you meet a soldier or spy a man in uniform in public? Do you see shadows of them or do you see the substance of the human being inside the ACUs? Are we naming projected shapes in our Platonic Cave, or are we gauging our views of these men and women on the basis of what is real, which is the self-evident truth of their humanity. Symbols do not sacrifice, bleed, die or mourn, humans do — soldiers do. Symbols don’t long for home, safety and rest for a weary body, soldiers do. I think it is time to reconnect the symbol and metaphor to the tension that creates a critical awareness. When that tension is lost, and the living object takes on the lifeless regard of the actual symbol, then the metaphor is broken and no longer effective.

The sacrifices of our soldiers are not mine to claim. They do not sacrifice for me in the sense that they take all of my burdens of sacrifice on themselves. Their sacrifice and work keeps me free so that I can offer the sacrifice of mindful self-governance and compassion as a neighbor to my fellow citizens. I also have to hold tightly to the truth that not only am I free, but I have a duty and the responsibility to remain that way.
