Flag Gazer’s Profile

I grew up in the shadow of Pearl Harbor and Punchbowl Cemetery - attending school with many military ‘brats’ and socializing with troops on R&R from Vietnam during high school. My first ‘crush’ has his name engraved on The Wall. While not in the military, most of my life has been surrounded by them or dedicated to the support of them. I had family who always valued the history of our country and ’supported the troops’ - long before that phrase was coined - and made me aware of the sacrifices made on my behalf.

Currently, I live on a small farm in the high desert of Central Oregon. I have a blog called “Gazing at the Flag” which is about honoring and supporting our troops and sharing their stories. I started my blog because of the amazing letters I received from our troops stationed in places such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Qatar, Kuwait, Djibouti, the Philippines. I realized that their stories were not being told. I am honored to be part of the VA Joe Blog and plan to bring you the “Faces of Freedom” - the stories of the men and women who serve - the stories the media doesn’t bother to print, but which speak to the greatness within our country.
