WTF is going on at our bases, were is security?
=======================
At least seven people were reported killed in a shooting Thursday at Fort Hood, an Army post in central Texas that is home to two divisions.
A spokesman at Fort Hood said two gunmen opened fire at the post's Soldier Readiness Center. One gunman was captured, Sgt. Major Jamie Posten told CNN, and a manhunt was underway for the second.
"We are on the lookout for the second shooter," Posten said. "At this time, Fort Hood is locked down to in-and-out traffic."
Posten said he could not confirm or deny casualty figures.
Local news media said more than a dozen people were wounded in the shooting. The attack occurred about 1:30 p.m. Central time at Fort Hood's Soldier Readiness Center, where troops are processed before deployment and upon their return from combat tours abroad, cable news networks reported.
Located near Killeen, Tex., Fort Hood is the U.S. military's largest installation and the only Army post in the United States that houses two divisions. It is also the home of III Corps headquarters.
About 65,000 soldiers and family members live on the post.
President Obama was informed of the shooting in the afternoon, a White House spokesman said

I just heard this on the radio on my way home from work. Were the shooters service members or civilians? Any more details about this story?

Current radio reports are 12 dead, 30 wounded. Three shooters. One of them dead, the other two in custody. All three were/are soldiers.
The first shooting began at about 1:30 p.m. at a personnel and medical processing office, Army spokesman Lt. Col. Nathan Banks said. The facility, called a Soldier Rating and Processing center, handles administrative details for soldiers.
Banks says the second shooting took place at a theater on the sprawling base.

there is a good chance this was soldier on soldier from what I am hearing but not confirmed. Apparenty there is a large gang related activity at Ft Hood among soldiers who have been taken into the service with gang background.
cnn is running this live
Prayers go out to all the families of those killed or wounded.

Who do you think? Multiple shooters, organized. No criminal group, they wouldnt want the hell brought down on them. Not really a mental disorder, usually that is a lone activity. Who do you think?

Muslim who has said in public, and had to be told to shut up by a Colonel, that the Iraqi muslims needed to fight the invaders. He had been trying to get his next deployment cancelled. Had a bad fitrep when he transferred from Walter Reed to Ft Hood.

A horrible, tragic day and without any justification whatsoever.
The original news appears to have been wrong about there being multiple shooters. I heard a little while ago that both other individuals had been released. Looks like another lone, looney gunman and of all things a psychiatrist with a specialty in treating those suffering from mental health problems as a result of combat.

There's a big buzz around here. He's a DC Metro area homeboy, born in Virginia, graduate of Virginia Tech (how's that for irony?) and for a long time posted in Bethesda. He's been in the military for many years and received all his post-college education through his service.

Just heard another report that a friend if this Major that he was to be deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan and was angry because he had recently converted to Islam.
Every few minuets the story keeps changing.
I pray for the families of the victims. May God give them some measure of comfort. May the friends surround them and hold them tight. God have mercy on them.

With what I have heard he said in the not-so-distant past, I would place him more in the category of Sergeant Hasan Akbar, another home grown terrorist. Both seemed to be following something more than just resentment at higher-ups. I will let you fill in the blank.
Akbar, for those who have forgotten, was the dirtbag with the 101st that threw the grenades in the tent on the eve of the invasion of Iraq.

For the first time in a very long time, I was away from a computer, TV, radio, even my cell phone most of the day and only heard about this a couple of hours ago.
It has indeed been a tragic day at Fort Hood for its soldiers; their families; and most certainly the leadership.
I'm still trying to catch up on this and other events of the day.

Garrysr I agree totally for that guys name. Either way it is home grown and that has to be our biggest fear.

According to the last press release from FT HOOD, the shooter is still alive and will recover and that there on only one shooter, they have released the other two that was pickup and then they said that they had pickup a third person of interest.
And the MAJOR, was born into a muslum family and raised that way, if he didnt really want to go and do his duty why in the H--- didnt he just resign and get out of the military, thats what i did when i came time for me to re-enlist, cause i found out that i had orders to go to VIETNAM, and didnt really care to go at that time and that was in 1969, when it was going hot and heavy,
And it was FOXNEWS that i was watching last night and i think that they did a bang up job of reporting on this, they even knew the MAJORS , name but would not release it until the base had confirmed it, and they didnt have a bunch of reporters trying to get in to the hospital where all of the wounded had been taken, and just read that it is 13 dead, one of the wounded passed away over night. other than that i havent turn the TV on to see what is going on as of yet.

To address why the Major didn't get out, he got in to get the training to be a psychiatrist. As he received that training, he incurred a debt to the Army. To have resigned, he would have had to repay a large sum of money. Rather than do that, he took a calculated risk, and legal action to try to ensure he did not deploy. His legal avenue failed, and he, according to a retired COL he served with for a time, did not believe we should be in the Middle East, and believed the Muslims had a right, or obligation, to fight against the oppressive forces- us.
So, he got his training, and a very healthy income, as long as it fit in with his plan. When that plan was going by the wayside, the events of November 5 happened.
