Submitted for a nice balanced choice of charities. Any one of them would be deserving.
Operation Shoe Box
Operation ShoeBox was founded in 2003 in an effort to send support, snacks and much needed personal care items to our troops deployed outside of the USA and we encourage citizens to support their fighting men and women deployed overseas in these dangerous times. The most frequent response we get from the "boots on the ground" is that receiving mail from the home front is a huge morale boost!
A Bit of Home
A Bit of Home supports over 150 different soldiers per day by providing necessary and hard-to-get toiletries.
Groceries for Families
Help a military family by purchasing gift certificates to the commissary.
Free Computers for Spouses or Parents of Deployed
This service is available for soldiers in ranks E1-E5.
Fisher House
The Fisher House Foundation donates comfort homes, built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to be close to a loved one during hospitalization for an unexpected illness, diease, or injury.
Connect and Join
Connect And Join is a secure online communications and activities site that connects famlies around the world who are seperated either by deployment or have family members living away from home due to job related responsibilities.
Family and friends back home build and maintain the family password protected website, creating a daily digital scrapbook of "life at home" for the deployed and loved one living away. Connect And Join is easy to use, with templates and fill in blank forms.
Cell Phones for Soldiers
Donated cell phones are recycled and turned into cash. The cash is used to purchase calling cards for soldiers in Iraq.
Books For Soldiers
Help the troops escape boredom by donating some books. You can also donate DVD's and CD's requested by soldiers.
National Guard Family Program Online Community
"One Stop Shop" Here you can learn about Family Readiness, Program Services, Plans and Operations. Family readiness takes a look at the six step family program model that keeps you informed and involved about your benifits as a serving family.
Homes for Our Troops
Homes for Our Troops assists injured verterans and their immediate families by building new or adapting homes with handicapped accessibility.
Operation Give
Operation Give provides toys, clothing, and school supplies primarily to the children of Iraq and Afghanistan.
Blue Star Mothers
The Blue Star Mothers was founded by service members' moms during World War II. Any mother with a son or daughter in the military can join.
Treats for Troops
Our Gift Shops are filled with treats that are sure to put a smile on a soldier's face. You'll find a wide range of ready to send packages in Gifts To Go, or you can choose from hundreds of individual items in the shops on Market Street and put your own package together.
Adopt a Platoon
Adopt a platoon has several ongoing projects to ensure that no soldier overseas walks away from mail call empty-handed
Any Soldier
Any soldier is a non-profit organization that helps people send care packages to members of the armed services in Iraq.
Operation Air Conditioner
Operation Air Conditioner provides not only air conditioners but space heaters for soldiers in iraq and Afghanistan.
Appreciate Our Troops
Purchase a Support Our Troops mug and free personalized mug will be given to a current or former service member.
Soldiers' Angels
Soldiers' Angels currently supports thousands of American Service Members stationed wherever we raise our Country's Flag and the number is growing daily. We also work tirelessly supporting our Wounded Soldiers, with backpacks filled with needed items , personal visits, phone calls, etc. Additionally, we send our thanks via letters and email to the military of Great Britain, Poland and Australia who serve by our soldiers side in Iraq.
Snowball Express
Homefront America, Inc., has teamed up with The Snowball Express an organization who has been providing extraordinary and memorable holiday experiences - in ways on cannot begin to imagine - to children who have lost a parent or loved one since 1998.
National Center for PTSD
This Website keeps current on resources emerging to help our returning warriors who have been traumatized by the brutalities of war.

Mentioning and honoring an organziation which supports our troops is a fantastic idea, with one hitch that very few people ever think about...What percentage of the funds that they collect ACTUALLY go to "support our Troops" With the increase in organizations popping up all over the internet and around our neighborhoods, please seriously look into there back ground and find out what is actually going to the troops.
We had this discussion recently and checked with the WWP, and believe it or not approx 85% go directly to support of the troops. I have delt with the WWP since it was started as one of the senior members actually worked for the DAV regional office here in NYC and left to assist in its creation.
This does not mean that there are not great organzations out there, So remember check out who your donating to, this also goes for any other donation you are about to make. Websites are cheap to make now a days so just think before donating.
The WWP gets my vote.

dumbistry,
Thanks for all of the nominations. Quite a few, but some are lesser-known, so thanks for bringing them to our attention.
I added these:
Operation Shoe Box
A Bit of Home
Cell Phones for Soldiers
Blue Star Mothers
Snowball Express
Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS)
These were already nominated:
Adopt a Platoon
Any Soldier
Operation AC (Air Conditioner)
Fisher House Foundation
Operation Give
Books For Soldiers
Soldiers' Angels
I did not add these. I give explanations. Let me know if you think I misunderstood something and these organizations should be included:
Groceries for Families--Its website requested that donations come through the Air Force Aid Society, USO, Fisher House Foundation or Operation Homefront. These are already nominated.
Free Computers for Spouses or Parents of Deployed--I can't find its web address. If anybody knows the web address please post it.
Treats for Troops--Not a nonprofit.
Connect and Join--Although it does "charitable" work, I'm not sure if it is a nonprofit charity, and I did not see a way to donate.
Appreciate Our Troops--Didn't look like a charitable organization.
National Center for PTSD--A government information site, not a charitable organization.

Charity: Operation Gratitude
This charity has sent to date 254,210 care packages to troops overseas. They want to put a smile on every service members face and by doing so making them feel the love and support from home. This is a great charity and their mission is as follows: (taken from their website www.operationgratitude.com)
Our Mission
Hundreds of thousands of American troops are deployed in hostile and remote regions of the world, including the Middle East, Afghanistan, Africa, Guantanamo Bay and on ships throughout international waters. The physical conditions they must endure are difficult and they may be separated from loved ones for long periods of time. OPERATION GRATITUDE seeks to lift troops' morale, and bring a smile to their faces by sending care packages to service members overseas. OPERATION GRATITUDE care packages contain food, toiletries, entertainment items and personal letters of appreciation, all wrapped with good wishes of love and support.
Through Collection Drives, Letter Writing Campaigns and Donations of requested items or funds for shipping expenses, OPERATION GRATITUDE provides civilians anywhere in America a way to express their respect and appreciation to the men and women of the U.S. military in an active, hands-on manner.
OPERATION GRATITUDE is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, all-volunteer corporation, funded entirely by private donations. For safety and security, the assembling of all packages occurs at the Army National Guard Armory in Van Nuys, California.

How 'bout the "Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund"??? I think its a great charity!
http://www.cfsrf.org/
*****"Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization that was founded in October 2003 as a means of providing College Grants and Financial Assistance to surviving children and spouses of our U.S. military service members who have lost their lives in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
Our financial assistance program assists disabled service member families as well. Our donations come from families, individuals, and businesses throughout the World. Those that raise funds on their own may chose to help families within their State.
Our Grant Committee has awarded $84,500.00 in College Grants to children and spouses who have lost a parent or spouse during their service in the Iraq or Afghanistan wars and $49,042.00 in financial assistance to families with children under the age of 18 since 2005. If you or someone you know are in need of assistance, please go to our grants section for further information or to obtain an application.
We encourage those in need to apply for assistance that has been so graciously offered by those that hold the highest respect for our military and their families and wish to honor all the sacrifices made on their behalf.
“Only two people have ever offered to die for you. One was Jesus Christ and the other is the American GI. One died for your soul, the other died for your freedom."
Please remember our troops and their families need our help and support. Thank every person in uniform that you come across for their service to our country and their guarantee that our families and theirs can continue to live their lives in Freedom. God Bless Our Troops!"*****
