Find Schools Coast Guard Tuition Assistance (TA) helps servicemembers complete their education by offering them up to $4,500 annually for classes taken from nationally or regionally accredited institutions. Highlights

  • Tuition Assistance covers:
    • Developmental courses in math, English and reading. 
    • 100% of tuition and fees for most vocational programs
    • 100% of tuition and fees for most college coursework

Drawbacks

  • The Coast Guard will only pay up to a certain amount for each credit hour and only up to a certain amount each year:
    • $250 each semester credit hour
      Or
    • $166 each quarter credit hour
      And
    • The total amount is capped at $4,500 each fiscal year.

  • Tuition Assistance does not cover:
    • Student activity fees, parking fees or student IDs
    • Textbooks
    • Preassembled items available to the general public, such as computers and televisions
    • Fees for flight time, flying lessons or noncredit aviation classes
    • Application, course registration, entrance, record-maintenance or enrollment fees
    • Tools or equipment
    • Certification courses and tests, or licenses
