Marine Corps Tuition Assistance

Find SchoolsThrough Tuition Assistance (TA), Marines can receive up to $4,500 annually toward the cost of their coursework. Tuition Assistance covers off-duty education, but you must agree to a two-year active duty stint after you finish your coursework. Highlights

  • Tuition Assistance covers developmental courses in math, English and reading.

  • The Marine Corps will pay up to $4,500 of your tuition and fees for most vocational and post-secondary programs.

Drawbacks

  • The Marine Corps will only pay up to a certain amount for each credit hour and only up to a certain amount each year:
    • $250 each semester credit hour
      Or
    • $166 each quarter credit hour
      And
    • The total amount is capped at $4,500 each fiscal year.

  • Tuition Assistance does not cover books.

  • Tuition Assistance does not cover courses taken at the same level or at a lower level than your current degree.

  • If you fail a course, withdraw from a course or receive an incomplete, you will have to return the Tuition Assistance you received for the course. 

Apply

  • If You've Used Tuition Assistance Before

    Complete a Tuition Assistance Application (NETPDTC 1560) and return it to the Lifelong Learning Office at your base.

  • If This Is Your First Time Using Tuition Assistance

    Besides completing a Tuition Assistance Application (NETPDTC 1560), you must also take the TA Orientation course and then pass the corresponding Test of Adult Basic Education with a score of at least 10.2. The Lifelong Learning Office or Education Office at your base has the details about the course and test.
