Highlights

  • Benefits can be used for:
       
    • College
    • Technical or vocational courses
    • Correspondence courses
    • Apprenticeship or on-the-job training
    • Flight training 
    • Licensing and certification tests  
    • Independent-study and distance-learning programs

  • You can use benefits for 36 months, even if you only served the minimum 90 days.

  • More than $28,000 in benefits may be available to eligible reservists and guard members.

  • Your benefits are available for as long as you are in the Selected Reserve or National Guard.

Drawback

  • After you leave the Selected Reserve or National Guard, you are no longer eligible for REAP benefits.

  • Depending on your circumstances, you may be better off using MGIB-SR benefits than REAP benefits.

  • You also must decide if you want your time served to count toward REAP or MGIB-SR benefits.
