Location and team Join the team that is helping Hawaiian Electric Company (HECO).  KEMA Services Inc. has been retained by HECO to evaluate the EnergyScout Program.  KEMA Services, Inc. is headquartered in Burlington, Massachusetts, and is a leader in demand side management, energy efficiency and green building practices, with over 250 energy professionals in offices throughout the United States. KEMA Services, Inc. is seeking Field Technician based in the Honolulu, HI area from 11/16/2009 through 11/20/2009.  The successful candidate will be responsible for testing and verifying LCR-5000 operations for HECO's water heater direct load control program.
Tasks will includeConduct communications equipment inspections at up to 100 locationsVisually confirm that the EnergyScout box is presentVisually confirm the signal light on the box indicates proper operation and signal receipt capabilityWith the end use equipment running, have a signal sent by HECO system operator and witness both the receipt of the  communication and the opening of the relay to interrupt the equipment.For the last step, it will be necessary to get the equipment running if it is not running on its own.  The technician will record the current water heater thermostat position, then energize the heating elements by raising the thermostat that controls the water heater.  Prior to leaving the premise the technician will reset the water heater thermostat to the original position. The technician will record results of each inspection step.  If a control unit is not working properly at the time the technician visits, we will notify the program, so that the device can be repaired or replaced.
Requirements include a degree in an engineering area or equivalent; a minimum of five years of energy efficiency experience; strong communication skills as demonstrated by experience with presentations, papers or other public forums; strong report-writing skills; budget management experience; and computer skills including MS Office, with  exceptional skills in Excel.  An energy efficiency background with a solid knowledge of energy efficient technologies and practices is required. This is a casual/temporary position, up to 40 hours per week. Travel expenses for this position will be reimbursed.
