Only two days ‘til Thanksgiving and, equally as important, two more days ‘til some more football. Second best week of the year. We’ve gone through eleven weeks in this football season and while my home team might be dwelling in the cellar of the NFC West, albeit with some company, there’s still much to be thankful for.
I’m thankful that I get to see Favre, Brady, and Manning all playing the quarterback position at such a high-level. If you don’t like watching either of them work, or Romo for that matter, I’m not sure why you’re watching football in the first place.
I’m thankful that the Patriots are this good. To be honest, I like dynasties. They’re good for the sport. They’re polarizing---either you love ‘em or you hate ‘em. We need that as fans, something that draws passion or anger out of us, so much so that we can yell about it with some guy at a bar for an hour. I like seeing how many points they’re going to rack up this week. I like see how high Vegas keeps setting the line and then watching them destroy it. And so does my wallet.
I’m thankful that the Steelers lost last week. Now everyone can stop talking about how they are a legitimate threat to the Patriots. Merril Hodge and all those ESPN guys shouldn’t be able to get away with some ridiculous point one week and then just act like they never meant it in the first place. Then, when they get something right, they won’t stop telling you about it. If other experts would call out their fellow brethren more often, it would make for much more watchable and enjoyable television, as well as providing some accountability to these ludicrous contentions. Anyway, the Steelers have lost to Denver, Arizona, and the Jets. Enough said, let’s move on.
I’m thankful that the Rams aren’t coached by Herm Edwards or Brian Billick. I’m convinced that Herm Edwards doesn’t understand the game of football. You are supposed to save your timeouts until the end of the game. He costs the Chiefs 2-3 games each year with his poor clock management skills. And his refusal to open up the playbook in Indy last week cost his team a tie for the division lead. If you’re going to go with a 2nd year QB, there’s going to be some growing pains. He’ll have good and bad games, and make great throws and poor throws. But you got to let him make those mistakes. You can’t just run the ball 3 times and punt or only have him throw the ball to backs and short stuff. Herm, you don’t score points with your defense. Your offense is going to need to do something if you expect to with in the league. As far as Billick, you’d think that he might want to find another quarterback. Kyle Boller isn’t going to get the job done, obviously. And yet, instead of running your new All-Pro running back, you elect to throw the ball 40 times a game. That’s some offensive genius.
And I’m thankful that the Rams don’t play in the AFC East, otherwise the Patriots might top one hundred.
On to the picks… (Home team in CAPS)
Packers over LIONS
Right now, I think the Packers are better than the Cowboys. Offensively, I like Dallas more, but Green Bay’s defensive is vastly underrated. Harris and Woodson are both shut down corners, AJ Hawk is a beast in only his second year, and Aaron Kapman is a sack machine. For Green Bay, it comes down to whether Brett Favre can make good decisions and not turn the ball over. If that happens, Green Bay can win. As for this game don’t forget how much of a home field advantage it is playing in Lambeau in January. They want it and a slightly overrated Lions team isn’t going to stop them.
COWBOYS over Jets
It’s fun watching Romo and T.O. work. And the little battle of oneupsmanship between Owens and Moss is going to be something to keep an eye on in the remaining weeks. They each really want to out do each other. The Jets will score some points because after all Roy Williams couldn’t cover a tree, but not enough to stay with the second best offense in the league.
Colts over FALCONS
If the Colts don’t get healthy soon they could find themselves looking up at Jacksonville in the AFC South. And playing the Falcons is pretty much a bye, so that helps.
JAGUARS over Bills
David Gerrard is back, and Jacksonville is looking like a solid playoff contender. Gerrard has yet to throw a pick this year, and when you don’t turn the ball over you’re going to be in a lot of games. Fred Taylor and Jones-Drew is quite the tailback tandem, too.
CHIEFS over Raiders
Oakland’s run defense is pathetic. Priest Holmes could get his first 100-yard rushing game in over two years.
Saints over PANTHERS
As bad as that New Orleans defense is, I don’t see it getting tourched by a 44 year-old man. And with Steve Smith out, that Carolina offense is just that much more inept.
Seahawks over RAMS
The win last week in San Francisco is nice, but that offense has to score more than 13 points. Steven Jackson needs to be a workhorse for this team to have any shot of winning. Matt Hassellbeck is playing really well recently and is probably your third NFC pro-bowler at quarterback. He’ll carve up a terrible Rams secondary.
BROWNS over Texans
I’m not sure what the big deal is about what happened with reviewing the field goal in last week’s Cleveland game. They got it right. I’m not sure how you can complain about something that was correct. The fact that they can’t review it is dumb. If the point is to get the call right on the field, shouldn’t every play be reviewable, especially one that can determine the outcome of the game?
GIANTS over Vikings
I’m not sold on Eli Manning. If I was coaching, I’d jump on Brandon Jacobs back and let him take me to the division title. He’s a monster and needs to get 30 carries a game. And is Adrian Peterson really this good or is it his offensive line? Chester Taylor got 160 and 3 TDs last week.
BUCS over Redskins
Jason Campbell really stepped up and showed what he could do last week against the Cowboys. He has one hell of an arm. But was it Campbell or the lousy Cowboy secondary that was the cause of success? I’m not sure, and I’ll take the Bucs just because they’re at home.
Titans over BENGALS
I thought Vince looked great on Monday Night and his wide receivers looked like high schoolers. If you’re a receiver in the NFL, the ball should never go through your hands and hit you in the face. I’d be embarrassed and turn in my paycheck right there. The defense needs Haynesworth and Harper back bad.
Broncos over BEARS
Jay Cutler looked really good last night. Maybe he’ll turn out to be good after all. His arm strength allows him to hit those 15 yard outs with no problem. If he can do that, it’s one of the toughest plays to defend in football.
CARDINALS over 49ers
Despite their record, San Francisco is the worst team in football.
CHARGERS over Ravens
I thought about taking Baltimore, and then I looked at their record on the road: 1-4, with their only win against the Niners, by two points.
PATRIOTS over Eagles
If McNabb doesn’t play, 62-0 sounds realistic, right? 16-0 remains intact.
STEELERS over Dolphins
…and so does 0-16. What’s the sign of a rookie coach? A poor road record. The Steelers are 2-3 away from Heinz Field. Tomlin will learn how to motivate and get his team better prepared to play on the road as his career goes on. For now though, their going to struggle. Wish I would’ve realized this last week.

This is the year of Where are the good QB'S
I know where they will be on Thursday. Farvre, Romo, and Manning, Can't get any better games on Thursday than that.
But Sunday will be a Wash.
Central Florida likes the fish no Matter what!!
I have been telling everyone in central Florida that no one wants to see the Jaguars, they only pulled a 9.1 on there ratings, and the Dolphins pulled a much higher viewing even though their of their losing season.
The Finz were here first, Don't try and push the jags down our throat. we hate them even if they win the super bowl we don't care.
They put the Jags on TV instead of the fins and everyone gets pissed. so we don't support the Jags on tv. Try that on for size NFL.
To all of our men and women,
God Bless! and Our Thanksgiving is for you!!

Titans need to pick up new receivers in the offseason. Who's the 3rd Pro Bowl QB for the AFC/NFC. AFC it's Brady, Manning, and who? NFC it's Romo, Favre, and who? It's not out of the question to see Jay Cutler and Eli Manning in the Pro Bowl this year!

The Patriots clinched the AFC title before playing tonight with Buffalo losing.
To Griff: Better hope your Cowgirls win on Thursday night, for if you can't even beat the team in your conference that's vying for homefield advantage in the playoffs--then the Cowgirls don't deserve to represent the weaker NFC league in the super bowl.

ptsd, worry about your own house first. pray that while your boy is "trying to kill teams", teams arent trying to kill him. and just for once would you please recognize that you play in the weakest division in football?!!!! it takes the bills losing to clinch the division?!!! like that wasn't going to happen. BIG ACCOMPLISHMENT WINNING THE AFC EAST!!!!! yeah right! you want to talk about the weak NFC, look at your own pathetic division. you are GUARANTEED 6 wins even with a mediocre team. Ill see you in phoenix boy. if your QB makes it. we all know cassel aint gonna get em there. course we also know that last years AFC "juggernaut" crapped out in the first game after posting a league best 14-2 record. assuming you know anything about football (this is debatable) you will know that the first 16 games mean nothing. whether we beat the packers or not means nothing. we will be in phoenix. will you?
watching the 2 pathetic OT games this afternoon I thought of VAJon. How right he was last week with his post. it amazes me how crappy teams can't finish off other crappy teams. I only saw the last 4 plays in the Bears/Broncos game, but I can only imagine it was as bad as the Cards/49ers. Pathetic.

The Cowgirls season is on the line Thursday night, Griffin. If they lose to the Pack--their season is over, for the Pack will undoubtedly represent the weak NFC in the super bowl with a win and with home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Note, I'm not saying the Pack will win, but it should be an interesting game to watch from the peanut gallery cheap seats.
Yeah, the Pats looked a little shaky last night, but as all great teams do, they rose to the occasion to maintain that undefeated season. Btw Griffin, did you hear John Madden during last week's Sunday Night game say that he's been critiquing football for some 35 years and he's never seen a better quarterback play the game then that of Tom Brady? Now, with a very viable receiving corp--Brady is making winning look easy. Food for thought...knowing how much you admire Tom's skill level.

ptsd,
Tom and your boys showed that they will NOT go undefeated. How does it feel to know you came so close to losing to one of the WORST teams in what you call an inferior conference? Didn't look so inferior last night. Or is it just that your team ain't as great as you think they are?
As for Madden, if he was watching a Green Bay game he'd be saying the same about Favre. Or Romo in Dallas. Anyone who has watched football for a little while knows that Madden is on the bandwagon of whatever team he is calling. He says that about everyone. Last night, Brady showed that without Moss he aint all that. And by the way, how many games do you think you're going to win in the December and January throwing the ball 54 times. Not many. After last night, I'd say that the Jags and Steelers stand a real good chance of beating the Pats, though I wouldn't count any team out of it. Not after the lowly Eagles, who the Cowboys destroyed, almost beat you with AJ Feely. LMAO
And to say the Cowboys season is on the line is one of the DUMBEST things you have ever said. You know nothing about football. Go back to watching figure skating.

Hey not for nothing but we never have to win another one until the playoffs. Personally i have never advocated that we will win them all. On any given day any tem can beat even the number 1 teams just look at the Cowboy and Colt records. Every one hates a winner and a braggart. Not bragging mind you just a fact at this point in time. A win is a win god bad or otherwise.

Hey I can remember when we did not have the Pats and I was a tried and true NY Giants fan. They still are my second team regardless of their records. Besides that I worked at the Stadium in Foxboro from around the time it was built to the day it closed.
Here is a quize for all of you new england fans out there. What was the first event ever held in Schaffer Stadium. Yep named after that famous Boston Beer.

New Patriots Rules in Effect
In order to address the complaints and hurt feelings of the rest of the NFL, the commissioner has adopted 10 new "Special Rules" for all New England Patriots games. They take effect immediately, and are as follows:
Special Rules for the Patriots :
1) In the course of an NFL game, if the Patriots go up by more than 31 points, they are not allowed to play offense until the opposing team draws to within one score. (Pats will kick-off after an opposing team's touchdown or FG).
Once the team is within one score, the Pats offense may play, but Tom Brady may not, unless:
the Pats play with 8 players (including Tom), or the Pats play with 9 players, but 1 player for the Patriots is chosen by the opposing team from the stands. no Patriots linebacker is allowed to play offense, unless that LB is inserted at quarterback. However, Mike Vrabel cannot be quarterback.
2) If an opposing player states "It's like were playing 7-on-5s" (7 offense, 5 defense during practice), such as indicated by Justin Smith, DE, Cincinnati Bengals 10/1/07, the Patriots must take a time out and serve ice cold lemonade or hot tea (weather dependent) to the opposing team. Scones are optional.
3) Once the 31 pt rule is in effect, Patriots may challenge any play, but the opposing team gets veto power over the referee.
4) Once the Pats offense is allowed back onto the field (7 pts), for any forward pass the Pats QB must point to the receiver and call out his number BEFORE passing. If Tom Brady is quarterbacking at the time, he must do that, plus turn the opposing team's water cooler into wine BEFORE passing.
5) Belichick must diagram any Patriots play to the opposing defense and ensure they understand exactly how to disrupt the play. This all must be done within the play clock. If this process is not complete prior to the play clock expiring, the Patriots will be assessed a delay of game and double unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.
6) Randy Moss must play with 10lb ankle weights on each ankle. An additional pound will be added for each TD this season.
7) Wes Welker is not allowed to have "that crazy look" in his eyes. 10 yd, "crazy eyes"penalty assessed.
8) Tom Brady must immediately stop dating supermodels as he will not be allowed to date anyone that is more attractive then the least attractive significant other of an opposing team member (including coaches). He also must start doing commercials for every product imaginable, especially ones where he chants "cut that meat!"or refers to himself "as a 6'5" quarterback with a laser-rocket arm"
9) Bill Belichick is not allowed to be within 100 yds of any infant, for fear that his evil supergenius powers would assimilate such a defenseless creature into the Patriots System. We have already seen this effect on an inordinate amount of chipmunks, squirrels, and 'possum that commit suicide while crossing Rte 1 to reach Gillette Stadium.
10) Patriots must respect all opposing players feelings and apologize for every first down. Touchdowns must be followed by a written apology and a fruit basket presented with a hug.
