With its dismantling of the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, the New England Patriots all but solidified an unblemished, 16-0 regular season record. Next up are the woeful Jets and what may turn out to be the worst team of all-time, the Miami Dolphins. If the head to the Meadowlands undefeated, I think Bellicheck plays all his starters and goes for the undefeated record. I don’t think Eli Manning is going to be the quarterback to break up the dynasty either.
So let’s assume the Patriots win out and head into the playoffs a perfect 16-0. That doesn’t necessarily guarantee an undefeated season, as they still have to maneuver through the postseason. So who has the best chance of knocking them off? Here are my top five teams:
5. Pittsburgh Steelers
Yes, they just got annihilated, but all it not lost. They were playing without All-Pro safety Troy Polamalu. If he returns, I think that could sure up their pass defense some. Perhaps Randy Moss won’t be able to just run by whoever is defending him. The game was competitive in the first half, so the Steelers have at least shown they are capable of winning. However, in the second half the difference in coaching showed. Bellicheck out coached Tomlin in every facet of the game after the half, as the Steelers were outscored 17-0. While he’ll get better with experience, the difference in coaching knowledge makes his upset almost impossible.
Odds of defeating the Patriots: 75 to 1
4. Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars have a few things going for them: they have an accurate quarterback who doesn’t turn the ball over, they have an effective running game that can help them control the time of possession, and they have a hard-nosed, aggressive defense. So why can’t they do it? Much like Mike Tomlin, Jack Del Rio is simply too green to be able to compete with the Hoody. In there only playoff meeting two years ago, the Patriots beat the Jags 28-3. Also, warm weather teams have trouble adjusting to playing in the cold. Tom Brady on the other hand excels: 21-2 when the temperature is under 40 degrees.
Odds of defeating the Patriots: 45 to 1
3. Indianapolis Colts
Sorry Colts fans, but your shot at beating the Patriots was lost when Dwight Freeney went down for the year. Freeney allowed the Colts to get pressure on Brady using only their front four. Now, they’ll be forced to blitz Brady, which will leave the Colts poor, undersized corners to play man-to-man coverage on Moss and Co. And should they meet again the game would take place in New England, where Peyton Manning has never won in the post season and has thrown five picks to only one touchdown.
Odds of defeating the Patriots: 25 to 1
2. Green Bay Packers
The Packers actually match up quite well against the Patriots. They have two all-Pro corners that will help against the Pats deadly passing attack. They have an all-Pro pass rushing defensive end that will help get pressure on Brady with only their front four. And they have an all-Pro linebacker that can help both snuff out the run and in pass coverage. Plus, they have the ultimate big game quarterback. If these two would met it would be in the Super Bowl, and there would just be something magical about Brett Favre beating the 18-0 Patriots. It would also be on a neutral field, in clear playing conditions. That being said, Favre has a tendency to turn the ball over, something that you absolutely can not do if you want to hang with the Pats.
Odds of defeating the Patriots: 8 to 1
1. Dallas Cowboys
With every game, the legend of Tony Romo seems to grow. He’s gone from undrafted to top three quarterback in not even over a year of game time. Marion Barber is running like a man possessed. To beat the Patriots you have to be able to score with them, and the Cowboys might be the only team in the NFL that can do that. And if they meet again, it would be on a neutral field. If we can only get a Super Bowl matchup between the 17-1 Cowboys and the 18-0 Patriots, then there’s not much else to ask for.
Odds of defeating the Patriots: 2 to 1
On to the picks…(Home team in CAPS)
Broncos over TEXANS
Jay Cutler is fresh off his best game as a pro and he and Brandon Marshall are becoming quite the combination. Look for the Broncos to roll on Thursday night in a game that’s not exactly going to make people run out and order the NFL Network.
Bengals over NINERS
What has happened to Frank Gore? So good last year, he just can’t seem to find any running room this year. One bright spot for SF: Patrick Willis deserves to be the defensive rookie of the year.
BUCS over Falcons
Atlanta is just brutally bad, and it’s not going to get any better any time soon. A majority of their key players are veterans. If Arthur Blank really cares as much about his team as he says he does, he needs to spend some money in free agency this season.
SAINTS over Cardinals
Are the Saints a better running team without Reggie Bush? They had their first 100 yard rusher of the year last game, the great Aaron Stecker.
Jaguars over STEELERS
This is a toss-up and could go either way. My reasoning is simple: I just think the Jags are better.
PATRIOTS over Jets
Final Score: Pats 72, Jets 13
Packers over RAMS
At this point, I’m fine with the Rams losing the rest of their games to get a better draft pick. So go right ahead, start Brock Berlin. I dare ya.
Ravens over DOLPHINS
What irony, the Patriots going undefeated the same season the Dolphins don’t win a game. Just great stuff.
BROWNS over Bills
In a game that will determine the AFC Wild Card team, I like the Browns playing at home. The Bills have been overrated all year. When your quarterback is Trent Edwards and your tailback is some Jackson guy no one has ever heard of, you don’t deserve to make the playoffs. It just goes to speak to the low quality of play in the NFL. I like Derek Anderson to put up some big numbers in the victory.
Seahawks over PANTHERS
Matt Hasselbeck is playing out of his mind recently. Look out for the Seahawks; they could be the sleeper in the NFC. Don’t forget they beat the Cowboys in the playoffs last year.
Titans over Chiefs
The quality of play outside of the top five teams in the NFL is pathetic. Brodie Croyle and Kolby Smith---I won’t be buying tickets to watch that team.
Colts over RADIERS
Yes, remarkably the ninth blowout of the week. The NFL, you gotta love it!
CHARGERS over Lions
Don’t be fooled by the Chargers, they aren’t for real. Phillip Rivers is too inconsistent and Norv Turner is one of the worst in game coaches there is. It’s surprising that Rivers would seem to regress under offensive minded Turner, but that’s what’s happening. 14-2 doesn’t look so bad these days, huh?
COWBOYS over Eagles
The Eagles will play the Boys tough, but Romo and Co. will be too much to handle. McNabb isn’t what he used to be and I think we’ll see him with a different team come next year.
Redskins over GIANTS
Skins have been playing better as of late, and Jason Campbell should shred a poor Giants secondary. Eli Manning has yet to show the skills that made him worthy of the first pick in the draft, and I think he’ll turn the ball over against one of the best defenses in the NFC.
VIKINGS over Bears
Kyle Orton? On the road? No thanks.
Last Week: 13-3
Season: 135-74

I think the Colts have a better than 25:1 chance of beating the Pats. If they can get some of their guys back, meaning Marvin Harrison, they will be tough to guard against. Anthony Gonalez had become a bonafide threat and with Dallas Clark having a good year they will be tough for any secondary to stop. They will be the UH of the NFL.

OK, I gotta question for everyone. With the Mitchell report coming out today it raises a question I have had for most of the season. Looking at the list of players implicated in the Mitchell report, there are a bunch of the over 40 "superstars" (Clemens, Bonds) and upper 30's "superstars" (pettite). My question is this. How has Brett Favre been so successful this year? After the last 3 years where he has thrown more interceptions than TDs, all of a sudden he is "lights out". This is a guy known for addictions to drugs in the past. Is it possible? I'm not saying he is or he isn't using performance enhancing drugs. It just seems odd to me that at an age when ALL NFL Qbs have declined measurably, Brett Favre has all of a sudden been able to do things he did 15 years ago. I have thought of this most of the season, but have always said, its Brett Favre. Now I see the over 40 and upper 30 guys who have excelled in recent years on the Mitchell report for steroid use and I have to wonder.

How about the Falcons...It seems the first thing Authur Blank needs to spend his money on is a new Coach..With the star QB going to jail and the Coach going to the SEC...I would say the Falcons will show up the last few games but I dnt think their heart will be in the games..So now we have a run for the First round pick...Lets see Miami is in the lead.followed by Rams but who will be over taken by the Falcons who thanks to Mr Vick and the New coach at ARK will be in 2nd place...Wish him well, bet they wont show any ARK games in ATLANTA...And should make ARK make it to the SEC championship game, some one will need extra Atlanta finest...

Have any of you looked at the year total for the so-called "experts" on the major websites? I have not found one yet that would be in the top 20 here on VA Joe. I think the smartest people are here. Hell, maybe ESPN, CBS, ESPN know-it-alls should check with us first on their picks!
Good luck all!

I think I can just about guarantee the Dolphins will get a win this week, This is the last week I can hope for a win....Please Fin Fans we need all the prayers we can get, even if you are not a finfan pray for the Dolphins this week.
The Jets are going to get whipped too, but like Chris Collingsworth said on HBO, I agree with him 1--% The Jets should just go in there knowing that they can't beat the Pats, so JUST BEAT-UP THE PATS.Put half the team on stretchers. Get them so they at least lose one game this year to another team. Like maybe the Colts?
The Jets should just go out there and hit them as hadr as they can and knock them out if they have to, and if they win that will be amazing, but most likely they won't so beat'em up!
Their going to win the Super bowl as it is!!
By the way griff671, It's all in the Juice, I believe all athletes do something to get them going, they are getting paid a lot of money to get on the field to perform and if they can't it's something very serious.
As banged up as Favre got through the years I know he is hurting every morning, He is an awesome player, I don't rule anyone out anymore.
Hey I even know for a fact that a pitcher Pitched a game totaly drunk, He was drinking a six pack in the dugout and went and pitched a win. He told me personally, (No names here)So there is more than beer going on Now.That was 15 years ago.
I also agree that the Colts have a better chance than 25-1 in beating the Pats.
That's why I want the Jets to go in there and kick some a** this week and bang them up!
Hit'em hard (not dirty) But clean hard hit's and knock out of the game!
Merry Christmas,
See Ya Next Week!

What weight can you give the Mitchell report when it is all heresay on the part of some dugout boys and ex-trainers. Add to this the fact that McGwire and Sosa were not tagged and most of the use goes back to 2000 and earlier. It's just more of a crap smear on baseball by of all people a "politician". I'm not advocating steroid use at all but I am saying is there shoud be proof of those accused not heresay.
Favre is and has been a great quarterback. When I put him side by side with Clemons or McGwire, I don't see the balloon body structure that they have. I think he's clean.

Hey Joe....Don't you think Belachek is going to run up the score on the Jets this week after he got to pay a 500K fine because the Jet coach turned him in for filming his team on the sidelines? Just a thought if you are looking at that spread.

*** There is no question that Bilicheck was upset at getting fined for doing something similar to that of every other team in the league. Rather than make his feelings known via the public air-waves--he took his frustration out on the teams the Patriots played...as in running up the score on them, except of course during their lull against the Eagles and Ravens. Don't expect Bilicheck to be so kind with his handshake of the Jet's coach after the humiliating defeat of the Jet team on Sunday. It wouldn't surprise me to see Bilicheck shun the ritual handshake in an attempt of making his point known, and in giving the sports shows something else to talk about in their own whining way. No one likes to see an undefeated team go all the way. No one that is except those of us representing Patriot Nation, and those that appreciate greatness when they see it.

@JoeZStuff: I saw that speech Collinsworth gave on Inside the NFL. I was so fired up I wanted to go hit someone myself. Costas had his fists balled up and was practically coming out of his chair by the end of it.
@Donchaz2u:Totally agree about the Pats game. Make no mistake, this game means everything to the Pats. The kid Belicheck groomed as a defensive coordinator, and who got rewarded as a head coach at a remarkably young age because of it, rats to the league about some videotaping that supposedly numerous other teams in the league engage in. This was after Mangini looked Belicheck in the face and shook his hand after the game. This is what sent the Pats on their rampage. Mangini is the reason why some question the legitimacy of their previous championship. If Bellicheck runs up the score on a Bills team with a coach whom he "respects", what is he going to do against the Jets? Tom Brady will not be coming out of this game. Let's remember that Brady, Harrision, Varbel, and Co. all won Super Bowls alongside Mangini. Don't think they don't feel betrayed.
As for the spread, I'm glad you ask. The Pats giving the points are an absolute steal. They started the week at -25, but now you can get it as low as -22.5. The reason for this is they're predicting wind and snow in New England. The Over has dropped ridiculously, from 51 to now 43.5. I'm also taking that as well. When the betting public starts going one way and making up excuses why the Pats won't cover, go the other way. The Patriots at home average 38 ppg. I say they cover the over by themselves. There's two scenerios that can happen: 1) the weatherman is right and it's a blizzard. This doesn't mean your shot. If anything, I'd like New England and the points more if it snows. We've seen Tom Brady before in the snow--his first ever playoff game against Oakland, the tuck game, in which he was 32-52 for 312 yards. Dude can straight throw it no matter the conditions, as all the great ones can. Kellen Clemens on the other hand is terrible in normal conditions. And he turns the ball over alot. You simply can't do that against the Patriots and stay close. Poor conditions would cause the conservative Jet offense to all but stop. No way they'd be able to get anything done. Or 2) weatherman is wrong like he normally is and the conditions are fine. They matchup and its talent on talent. That's what happened the first game of the year, to the tune of 38-14. Before the Pats were pissed. Do yourself a favor and take the Pats.
(Of course by saying this I've probably jinxed myself and will now lose my life savings.)

You have a point to an extent here. It is here say and there is no physical proof. The thing is, have you seen a baseball player tell the truth about this yet? Do I believe Roger Clemens? Yeah. About as much as I believe Barry Bonds. Or Rafael Palmeiro. Palmeiro, the guy who told Congress He had NEVER used steroids, then tested positive for them. Of course all of these players are going to say they never used them. Their HOF chances are swirling down the toilet. David Justice. "I never used steroids." Didn't this guy beat his wife? YEAH. The beautiful Halle Berry. But he will have you believe it wasn't 'roid rage or anything. Look, they all juiced. HGH is known as the "fountain of youth". It helps you recover quicker and prolong your career. You don't have to experience monster gains on the stuff. Just because you don't get bigger doesn't mean you aren't using. I'm just saying, at a time when athletes performances start to decline, Clemens, Bonds, and Favre started playing the best games of their lives. Seems odd to me.

HOT LINE TO GOD ! ! !
John Madden was in Pittsburg to announce a football game one weekend when he noticed a special telephone near the Steelers training bench. He asked QB Rothlisberger what it was used for and was told it was a hotline to GOD.
John asked if he could use it. Ben replied, ‘Sure, but it will cost you $200. John scratched his head, then thought, what the heck, I could use some help picking games. He pulled out his wallet and paid $200.
John’s picks were perfect that week.
The next week, John was in Indianapolis when he noticed that same kind of phone on the Colts bench. He asked what that telephone was for and Manning told him, ‘It’s a hotline to GOD if you want to use it, it will cost you $500.’ Recalling the previous week, John pulled out his wallet and made the call.
John’s picks were perfect that week.
Last weekend, John was in Foxboro, when he noticed the same kind of telephone by the Patriots’ bench. He asked Tom Brady, ‘Is that the hotline to GOD?’ Brady said, ‘Yes, and if you want to use it, it will cost you 50 cents.’
John looked incredulously at Brady and said, ‘Wait a second, I just paid $200 in Pittsburg and $500 in Indianapolis to use the same phone to GOD ! Why do the Patriots only charge 50 cents?’
Brady replied, ‘Because in New England, it’s a local call.
Welcome to ‘GOD’s Country.’

Tom Brady died and went to heaven. When he got there St. Peter opened the Pearly Gates and welcomed him with open arms. God greeted him and told him, "Tom, you were one of the greatest QBs to ever the play the game. I thoroughly enjoyed watching you every Sunday. I have prepared a special house just for you, come see."
So God walked Brady over to his house. It was a gorgeous 2 story home painted in red, white, and blue. Patriots memorabilia was everywhere. From the mailbox to the door knocker, everything was Patriots. Brady was enjoying the moment as he walked around the house. When he got to the back he looked behind his new home and his jaw dropped. Before him sat the largest mansion he had ever seen.
This mansion was painted blue, silver and white. It had a giant star covering the front of the home. The driveway was blue with paintings of the numerous SuperBowl trophies belonging to the Cowboys. There was Cowboys memorabilia as far as the eye could see. It was Cowboys paradise.
Brady was upset and he asked God, "Lord, I won multiple SuperBowls, was a perennial All Pro, broke passing records like they were high school marks. Why does Romo get a house like that?"
God looked at Brady and said, "That's not Romo's. It's mine"
(Remember, the hole in the roof of Texas Stadium is so that God can see his team play every Sunday.)

Favre is and has been a great quarterback. When I put him side by side with Clemons or McGwire, I don't see the balloon body structure that they have. I think he's clean.
Baseball is over it is football Season. Set up a baseball post at rant over there!

With the weather predicitions the way it is supposed to be this could be anyones ball game. Both teams play in the same weather conditions. This will be a grinder and yes the jets could come away a winner. I am not giving up on my guys cause we have a card up our sleeve. We may actually make the John Deere active for this game or turn on our hidden snow melt where we kick the field goal winner from LOL.
I hope every one picks their winners and if they picked the jets they loose.

Hey kid,
I did not read everyone's post, so I hope I'm not repeating something that you already know. I heard on Fox Sports Radio, this week, that the Jets got caught by the Pats filming them last year. Then they turned the Pats in when they caught them this year. Have you heard any of this, or do you know if it is even true? If it is true, then I hope the Pats beat the Jets 70 - 0. Scream foul for the same thing you got caught doing is wrong and really childish. Just drop me a line if you know anything about this. Thanks, sbt6450.

hey steven,
I was talking about football. If you had actually read the posts and the string of them that ended in the one you quoted, you would realize that. I was talking about football and Brett Favre's recent amazing resurgence. I was using the baseball events to highlight my argument about Favre. Read my friend. It is the path to intelligence.

Sorry I missed the last innocuous innuendo out of 8 names. If I was as hurt as favre has been over the years then I would not even worry about it. Just test him ans see. The have random testing in Greenbay

FYI Manginni taped teams when he was defensive coordinator here at Foxboro. It was just stupid that the pats used the same camera man when Mangini was here. We got caught so what lets play on I'm sure that it did not help us one way or another. Just as it did not help other teams against us if they taped us. Basically it is not any different that a coach leaving to another team and they know all your sets. Get over it every one just come beat us and then we can move on to other topics and issues.
