Wow, now THAT was a game last night. I almost felt sorry for Tony Romo when he was making his SIXTH turnover of the game. Almost. Maybe that will quiet down all the talk of the Cowboys as the best team in the league, but from looking at some of last week’s postings, I doubt it. After five weeks, I think it’s time for some fans to ask themselves some difficult questions, such as:

How good is Tony Romo?
Ok Cowboys fans, you can’t sit behind your computers and tell me that Tony Romo is anywhere near the quarterback he has been hyped up to be, AT THIS POINT in his career. Now he could get better, and I suspect he will. There are things I love about Romo: his intensity, the fact that he seems to actually be having fun playing football, his ability to avoid a sack in the pocket and find the open man, and his ability to throw on the run, outside of the pocket. However, he isn’t Tom Brady/Peyton Manning/Brett Favre. He has yet to complete a full season as the starting quarterback. On Sunday night, John Madden was describing Brett Favre’s scrambling abilities as a “Romo-like"  play. Come on John that is just blasphemy. In Romo’s last ten games he has 18 TD and 16 INT. In between those regular season games, he was able to blow a playoff victory by dropping the snap on an extra point. So why all the love, Cowboys fans?

Are the Steelers an elite team?
Absolutely. Their defense is something special to watch, the way the fly to the ball and wrap up. If you want to know how to form tackle correctly, all you got to do is watch a Steelers game. I’ll give them a pass in the Arizona game since they were going against their ex-offensive coordinator. Mike Tomlin sure looks like a good coach from everything I’ve seen and read about him. His intensity makes me want to lace them up and go out on the field. And Big Ben doesn’t get nearly enough credit. He’s poised in the pocket, mobile enough to move around to avoid a sack, and is an accurate quarterback with a good arm. How many quarterbacks in this league can you really save that about? Eight? Five? If I’m the Patriots or Colts, this isn’t a team I’m anxious to face in the postseason.

Should the Lions even bother flying to Washington or just forfeit the game?
This is just incredible to me: in the history of the Detroit Lions, not once have they gone to Washington and beaten the Redskins. It’s been 21 games! And it’s not like the Redskins are that dominant of a team. Unbelievable.

How bad are the Rams?
Abominable. I came across this nugget of information yesterday that made me sick to my stomach: in the past 17 seasons, the Rams have had a total of four winning seasons. Yes, FOUR. And it doesn’t look like they’re going to have many more if some changes aren’t made soon. The offensive line is old, and the young ones they do have are pathetic. Alex Barron, now there’s a wasted pick. He HAS to have more false start/holding penalties then any other lineman in the league the past couple of years. Orlando Pace has now been lost for almost two full seasons. The receiving core is getting older, and I can only wonder how much longer we’ll have the thrill of watching Torry Holt catch a pass over the middle and then dive down at a defender’s feet so he doesn’t get tackled. It’s called football. Take the hit and try to break it or get some extra yards. Madden said it perfect Sunday night: there’s no sense in running out of bounds when one cutback could mean a touchdown. Meanwhile, the defense doesn’t have one player on the roster that I would want on my team. There are no impact players. And Scott Lineahan looks like he should be doing my taxes, not coaching a football team. Needless to say, it’s going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

I had a couple of good laughs reading the responses from last week’s post. Cowboys fans can sure give it good when things are going good. Let’s hope you all return next week after getting a little slice of humble pie, courtesy of the Pats.

On to the picks… (Home team in CAPS)

JAGUARS over Texans
After losing to the Titans to open the season, the Jags have quietly won all three of their last games. That two headed monster of Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew is something to be reckoned with. Garrard doesn’t seem to make drive killing mistakes, and when you can sustain drives for eight, nine, ten minutes and score, you’re going to be tough to beat. By the way, check out the AFC South. Bet you didn’t think there wouldn’t be a team under .500 through week 5.

Bengals over CHIEFS
It’s getting awfully ugly in KC. Through five games, Larry Johnson has 275 yards and no TD. Not exactly Earl Campbell-like stats.

BROWNS over Dolphins
Cleveland looks to not be all that terrible after all. Between Edwards, Lewis, and Winslow, the Browns have some offensive weapons. Although not what it used to be, it’s still tough to win at the Dawg Pound.

Eagles over JETS
You simply don’t rat on your former mentor/coach. The football god’s don’t like it.

Redskins over PACKERS
Ok, I’m starting to believe. Gregg Williams is a defensive genius after all. There’s just something inherently right with a hard-nosed team that likes to grind it out. It may not be flashy, but show me a team that can tackle and run the ball, and I’ll show you a playoff contender.

RAVENS over Rams
Ferrotte-Leonard-Bennett. It drives fear into the hearts of opposing coaches…

TITANS over Bucs
They just win. It’s that simple.

BEARS over Vikings
Even with half their defense injured, the Bears defense just finds a way to create turnovers. Their players just know how to strip the ball, and their always making plays. When you can’t kick the ball to Devin Hester, you’re giving the Bears good field position to start each drive with. Even if the offense doesn’t go anywhere, you’re still going to be pinned back deep in your own territory, and its next to impossible to go on 80-yard drives routinely against this defense, no matter how banged up. No one’s talking about Chicago anymore, but look out. I’m surprised there’s not more Bears fans on here.

CARDINALS over Panthers
Delhomme is hurt, and I love Kurt Warner.

CHARGERS over Raiders
They finally put it all together last week in Denver, but the Broncos aren’t as good as people think. They shouldn’t have much trouble with the Raiders at home.

Patriots over COWBOYS
I can not wait for this game. The atmosphere at Cowboy Stadium will no doubt be electric. However, the Patriots are as good a team as I have ever seen. And for all you that think Romo is amazing, I urge you to watch Tom Brady on Sunday. He does not lose on a big stage. Best QB EVER. And I will defend this statement, should anyone challenge it…

SEAHAWKS over Saints
Seattle might be overrated, but the Saints are atrocious.

Giants over FALCONS
This is the Monday night game? Really? This seems about as entertaining as painting my room.

Last Week: 8-6
Season: 47-30

Kirt Warner whats in your coffie??The Cowboys fans have taken a good ribbing this week from me.Now the Rams problem is MAMA Ram..I think She has her hand back in the cookie jar..Like back when she hired panty     hose joe as QB..he lost first 3 games for us and sit the rest of the season on the bench..he retired after that season..

The Bucs are starting to be injury prone again.... Now both Pittman and Williams are OUT. So now it's up to the ever reliable Earnest Graham and Ken Darby!
Ken who? That's right! Ken Darby a 7th round draft pick rookie. So pending a miracle the Bucs season is slipping away. The only hope for my Bucs is to trade for a decent RB and some decent offensive lineman. They play the Titans this week, hopefully the defense steps up big and Garcia and Galloway turn in a great game. I think the Bucs can win against the Titans, as the Titans are still only descent because of Vince Young. I dare anyone to name the rest of the team's starting lineups.
Julie,
I also owe you and your team an apology, as the Colts destroyed my Bucs even missing 5 starters. Your Colts are definetly the team to beat........

Those Cowboys really pulled one off the other night ... I am sure Bellicheck and the Pats will be studying that game to figure out how they managed to intercept Romo 5 times!

Charlie,

Sorry it took me so long to get back with you but I have good news. I have done some research and am ready to report my finding. According to what I have been able to gleen from my secret research operatives, I have found that statistically speaking, the Browns would be the better bet. They are the not in the top 12 and not in the bottom 10. But the Rams are not looking so good according to the stats. The numbers are not good for them. They are ranked at the bottom of the poop pile! Sorry but I am just reporting the facts! PLEASE DON'T SHOOT THE MESSENGER!!! LOL

That being said you must decide if you are a true fan of the Rams or willing to sell out and go with the lesser of the two evils. Hee Hee!

I have made up my mind and this time I am going to go with the Browns. Now I may be wrong, but I am going to take a gamble on this one!

GO COLTS!!! GO RAMS!!!

rudog,

The Jets(1-4) and the Eagles(1-3) are both at the bottom of the rankings. So get out your dice, blow on them and make a wish! LOL Good luck! Both teams will need it but we do know this...one of them has to win! LMAO I personally would go with the Eagles. But who am I to judge right? I am just going based on the numbers. LOL

GO COLTS!!! GO RAMS!!!

the way I see it is (JESUS)wasn't playing the game so we know Tony Romo is human and prone to make mistakes but the bottom line is he servived his down times and his defence side of the team helped him out alot that is team work when one side is faltering the other picks up and helps to win the game so why eat crow when we won the game I don't know about having a chance but if you take a good look the COWBOYS are still 5&0 and hopefully have another win when we take on the excellent PATRIOTS that will make us lookalot stronger a DALLAS COWBOY fan from the south born in Robstown Texas GO COWBOYS

Romo threw 5 picks but it didn't matter because the team still scored big numbers. It's a sign of a good team to not get frutrated with him. The Bills really blew it and its the fault of the offense that the defense kept handing the ball.

Julie,

As a person married to a math teacher, I would like to say be careful.  If you look hard enough you can find the numbers to sya what ever you want.  They are only part of the whole picture.  The bad thing about the NFL is, it's all about the money.  Noone plays with heart, only for the dollars.  That sometimes makes it hard to chose when you have two sorry teams.

Look for the Steelers to come back after their bye week and continue to dominate in every game left on their schedule.  Talk about key injuries! But they win anyway.

Lebeau should have received the peace prize instead of Al Gore.  I guess they don't consider anyone who makes war like the defensive coordinator of the Steelers!

Cowboys vs. Patriots. No contest. If Tony "Shotgun" Romo plays like he did last week, he may get sacked by his own team...the offense, that is.

Al Gore won the peace prize.  (I guess Jane Fonda turned it down.)

Look at his huge, energy gulping mansion and the private jet he flies in.  His REAL concern is making money on his investments in companies that benefit when there's hysteria about global warming.

First an emmy, then an oscar...and now the peace prize.  Who IS this guy?
Thank God we won't have to add 'President' to that collection.

Gore or Hillary?  One's a sissy in a skirt.  The other is a former first lady.

To start, I'd like to say that the BIG GAME (Pats vs Cowboys) is a no-brainer given the superhuman Patriots team. Plus, Tom Brady excels in big games, where Romo tends to fumble snaps.

In my eyes, there is another big game, which should be great to watch: Redskins vs Packers. Each team only has one loss, and the win will be a big boost for either team. Both have suffered scrutiny since the onset of the season. However, Favre has kept the Packers in the limelight with his TD record-breaking game this year, whereas the Skins have been laying the smack-down below the radar. I think the Skins D is better, and we have the superior running game for the win.

Another somewhat notable is the Vikings vs Bears game. Two good-defensive, poor-offensive teams go at it (although I have admired Adrian Peterson since the preseason). The Bears' Special Teams tips the balance in their favor for the win.

The Monday night game will have me asleep early, although I would love to see the Falcons win it. I know that's not likely though - Giants D is on a roll, and the Manning/Burress connection is solid.

I don't know why, but I think the upset of the week will be in Seattle. I know how bad the Saints are, but they are due. Just a bold prediction. I miss Deuce McAllister, as I'm sure the Saints do too.

Go Redskins!!

A few highlights for the upcoming games from a Patriot fan.

First, the boston college eagle football team is undefeated and ranked #4 in the country. The undefeated post season Red Sox will get by da Injuns to win their 2nd World Series of this century by bringing the high riding Rockies to their knees.

The all time record for the Patriot teams at Irving Texas against the Cowboys is 0-4. Is there anyone out there that believes that string will continue? Look for Romo to be as befuddled if not more against a far superior defense than what the Bills had thrown at him. Also, I picked every home team to win this weekend except of course for the Cowboys. I should have a perfect weekly score.

Well Jon,

I have very much disagree about Tom Brady. I will admit he is a good qaurterback. Even above average but best QB ever? No WAY I strongly do not have him in the top four (perhaps even further down if I thought about it), no, I think you just wanted to stir up responses with a statement like that!

sbt6450,

So if I was married to a brain surgeon I could give tell you about the brain and all of it's inner workings? LOL Give me a break! LMAO!!! I don't really like either team. I am just having to pick the lesser of the two evils! I am a COLTS fan. So what does your math whiz say about them? Just curious? I have looked at the numbers and it doesn't take a math teacher's wife to tell me who will more than likely win. So we will see. Now go and consult with him. I am sure he has very valuable information for you! I actually have done some research. No I am not a math teacher but my common sense has gotten me 44 years on this planet. I will go with my pics. I will look up your rankings and see how well YOUR math is working for you! ROTS OF RUCK!!!LOL  (remember this is all in fun so take it with a grain of salt!)

GO COLTS!!!
